Plot:Ever since he lost his family in an explosion, Mirai Kakehashi has lived a life of pain and despair. Every day, he endures abuse at the hands of relatives who took him in. As his anguish steadily chips away at his will to live, he is eventually pushed to the brink. Prepared to throw it all away, he stands on the edge of a precipice and takes the leap. However, instead of falling to his death, he enters a trance where he meets a winged being who claims to be his guardian angel. Named Nasse, the angel offers him two priceless abilities and convinces him to go on living.

When Mirai experiences the marvel of his new powers firsthand, he gets a taste of the freedom that was locked away from him for so long. Armed with Nasse's gifts, Mirai is flung into a showdown with 12 other individuals, one of which will be chosen to become the next God. In stark contrast to when he wanted to end his life, Mirai is now prepared to do whatever it takes to protect his bleak chance at happiness, lest it be wrenched from his grasp forever.

User Review:There were many hype train anime this season

Most of them did not disappoint, but I feel that platinum end is the only one that failed to deliver due to a variety of reasons.

I wish it would improve later down the line as well, but from what I have seen so far and having seen several anime with the same flavor I can confirm it is going in a route that most death game anime follow, and hence, I will have to say it even if some may disagree…….

This is not a death note successor, far from it actually.

So with that out of the way allow me to review it as an anime-only,

Death game anime tropes are abundant in this anime and hence the story for the most part is highly predictable, so far we have had our MC:-
1) Be reluctant to take part but forced to join death game (a very common death game trope present in darwins game btoom)
2) within three to four episodes the main waifu is introduced Who in some way influenced MC to join (this is there in Mirai Nikki, darwins game, talentless nana you name it)
3)evil for the sake of being Evil final foe, They even went as far as to gather fake sympathy for a person that he kills in episode 5 (don’t worry it ain’t the main character and not a spoiler)(talentless nana, darwins game )

So this hasn’t happened yet but I can already call it XD
4) something will happen that will turn meek MC into Gigachad probably the episode 5 event (honestly I’m tired of him already)(you guessed it ! it happens in btoom, talentless nana, darwins game, and more that I may not have watched but heard about).
5)something may happen to one of the secondary main characters making the gigachad MC An Ice cold Ultrachad(Nakama power Etc).

So yes, this doesn’t even deserve to be compared to death note, it follows all death game tropes and executes it but people who have seen similar stories can call the BS story far too easily for it to be of any worth.

Story (4/10), characters(2/10)
Since they had the sheer audacity to advertise it by using death note it set unrealistic expectations from the get-go. (Bakuman never needed to be advertised like this and it still managed to do far better and is actually great!) . I had faith the characters will be complex or at least nearly comparable to that of death note, But from what I have seen so far the author was clearly either not allowed to have the creative freedom or just wanted to print good money by sticking to the tropes. the characters are one-dimensional copies of morally good high school students who act and behave like every high schooler you have seen in any anime (which is even more bullshit considering most of them tried to attempt suicide and they never are depicted as disturbed or depressed). the main villain is evil because why the fuck not right? his reason for the atrocities he commits even makes terrorists look like saints.

Art and animation(4/10)
oh, boi at least here you could have put in some work? I will admit the design of the angels is very well done they look great, background art and stuff isn’t bad either. But oh may god save you when we reach the action scenes, I can tolerate bad CGI but damn, the fights are so unimaginative and generic that I will not be surprised if I see it in another Gacha cash grab game. Pathetic for a death game at least this much could have been worked on by an anime advertised as “by the creator of death note” xD. In a death game even if one of the fights is uninteresting, then it’s totally a lost cause! they don’t have anything else to work with so at least make the confrontations interesting!

Sound(6/10)
Well, Music and SFX are the only saving grace of platinum End, the Op is artistic and sounds alright ED I couldn’t notice because, by the end of the episode, I would usually be disappointed to a level that I wouldn’t even bother listening :3.VAs did not have much to work with since the character themselves are boring AF. Effects are alright the wings and arrows SFX are actually top-notch.

This anime is still watchable if you haven’t seen any other death game anime, you may find yourself maybe a little invested, Otherwise? An unoriginal pathetic cash grab makes me question the marketing team that decided to roll with “by the creator of death note”. I do not have much hope that it will improve from here on. And it already set the scale of expectation high enough. Bakuman never needed the “by the creator of death note” to boost its views. This anime feels like it was a deception from start to finish. dropping is the only way forward if you don’t find yourself interested after the first 4 eps and have other anime on your watchlist.
